Francis LaPlant By Jordan Espinosa On November 1, 2005 I interviewed Francis LaPlant, a student at SKC and asked him about what it was like for a man of 70 to be going back to college. “I mostly came back because I already have credits in Sociology and in Liberal Arts. And because I have so much time on my hands now, I’d rather use it than waste it,” said LaPlant. During his younger years, when he first started college, LaPlant mentioned some of the prejudices that were prevalent during that time. “Back then I was a little more prejudiced, and it motivated me to go to college. I didn’t go at first because I wanted an education, didn’t really care about that. I went because the ‘other guy’ was going” stated LaPlant. “Now, I want to help the kids around here by passing on what I know and feel to be important. So that they don’t make the mistakes I did, and so they can be prepared for what’s in store for them later in life.” |
